1. One new thing that you learned in week 1 in any of your classes at HELP.
- i learned about each strategies of the subjects(reading, writing, GO and grammar). Teacher tried to explain why i had to follow these strategies and gave me an example. Also they let us play game related to each strategies. for example, Aurora's class we played "jeopardy" together. seperated 2 group we had competiton. it was super difficult but we had a strong sense of rivalry. so we were adding our knowlege and helped each other and finally our group was a winner. it really helped our team work and was enough me to access their aims which is understanding their lectures easily. also, i learn something from GO class which is my studying type. it was really similar as i think my own style. what i was surprised is subin's studying style. type "b" was really exactly subin's style that i have been thinking since i met subin. i can strongly recommend this test to another english learners. from the next week i will follow this test result and learn english from cynthia. which means i trust cynthia( :) ). this week is not that hard in class because teachers didn't want to make class boring. however, i don't know all of the classmates so i was just talking with my previous friends. Maybe new students felt a liitle bit lonely because continueing students are already closing each other. next week we should have gotten together and done it harder than this week in class.
2. One new thing that you learned in week 1 outside of your HELP classes.
- Actually i didn't study hard this week. i just went ala moana beach to play body board and as a same day i did exercise at the UH gym. nevertheless i can say that i learned something from outside of HELP. i like and want to go to beach to enjoy Hawaii as much as i can stay in Hawaii, because i know when i will go back to korea,i won't be able to live my life like in Hawaii. so i want to learn beach sports like surfing and bodyboard. also, i learn at the gym how to train myself ( i know it's not learning ;_; ). but it was true, i don't like sports until summer term, but now i like to go zumba and yoga. next week i and subin will join yoga class to make body flexibly. besides, i learned not only from sport but also studying from my friends. because i like to learn speaking not in class but outside. if i will not meet people outside of the class, my speaking would not be improved during 9 months. i don't think everyday i was playing not studying. when i go party and chat with my taiwan, japan, china and korea friends it is relating to learn and could be continuous studying because at least i use english with them.
3. Tell me what you think about language learning and other type of learning. is there difference?
yes i thinks there has difference. for instance, english(language learning)and math(other type of learning). think about them briefly, i can tell their difference. we can distribute either to need people who talk with or to no need people. if you want to learn language, it is easy way to speak language with foreigner. that is why people go to study abroad like me and us. on the other hand, other type of learning like math, you should do yourself. other people can't help your studying. also when you learn language, the only problem is your age. when you are young enough, it is easy to catch and learn language easily. because your brain is also young so easy to accept and remember language. however, when you are not young enough, it is really hard to accept and study another language. these kinds of survey are also existed. whereas, math is more your inborn ability. because when i was middle and high school student, in class math genius were existing. they also good at another subjects. so if you are not genius but young. you should try to study focus on "language". i think that these are evident differentiations between language learning and other types of learning.
4. Why do we need learning strategies
i didn't learn exactly what is strategies, so i couldn't say we should learn about strategies. also i was confused between the strategies and the skill. in TOEIC test, the skill which i learned from my academy teacher was really helpful to me. because i don't need to read every sentence, just uses skill which is proved by statistic figures. however, the result after i read Cynthia's homework(yellow sheet) is that strategies also will be helpful to me and us. if i know about every strategies ( parentheses, appositive...etc) it is useful to me. but i wonder that even if i don't have time to read every article, how can i use that strategies to solve the problem. i had been learn many skill and strategies from my teacher, when i learn from them i felt like i will be a good reader and writer, but i couldn't use to trap timelimit. so i thought that first of all i have to learn both how to read fast and to understand. then i will be able to use that strategies.
